A stroll that will make us discover the many Legends and Curiosities
of St. Polo’s District:
the Market, the most Crooked Door in Venice, the Barrels Way,
the Stone “Barbacane”, the Legend of the Honest Woman.
At the end of the tour you will have the opportunity of visiting the
shop Carteria ai Frari, where you will be taught how to make and
customize a cotton paper and bound by hand notebook which will
be your unique and personal memento to take home.
A tour dedicated to the Anecdotes and Curiosities of Rialto and St.
Mark. Highlights of this walk are: “Fontego dei Tedeschi”, German
Merchants Headquarter; the House of Marco Polo who, thanks to
his travels, made Venice famous for trading Spices and Precious
Fabric coming from China; the Gambling Quarters where clients
had access exclusively wearing masks to avoid being recognised
and the unusual “Scala del Bovolo”, the only example of External
Spiral Staircase in Venice.
Our Walk will end in St. Mark’s Square where you will have the
opportunity to customise your personal Perfume using authentic
Venetian Recipes.
Starting this Tour at the Railway Station, we will stroll along one of
the least known district of Venice following the remains of a past
that still nowadays talks about all the changes happened in the city
during the Napoleonic Era: the Bas-Relief with the Baptist’s Head;
the erased Saint Mark’s Lion, the onlyColumn left standing
after the dismantling of the Holy Cross Church and St. Boldo’s
Tower.
Our walk will end at a Mosaic Workshop where we will discover all
the secrets related to this ancient craftsmanship that in Venice finds
its highest achievements in St. Mark’s Basilica.
The Arsenal of Venice was the most important Yard of the
“Serenissima Republic”. Starting this walk right at the front of the
Arsenal’s entrance, empowered by superb stoned Lions, we will
walk right into the area that made Venice one of the most
prestigious and powerful maritime cities in the Adriatic.
The craftmanship of the Arsenal’s Masters has been handed down
from father to son: “remeri”, oar builders, “segadori”, sawyers and
“marangoni”, carpenters still follow nowadays an antique
knowledge to build wooden boats of different shapes and sizes
that keep alive typical traditions like the Venetian Punting (row
standing).
Our tour will end at the rowing association “Querini” where you
will be taught how to master this traditional rowing style in the
Venetian lagoon.
